Sylvana Simons

I drew this portrait of Sylvana Simons and my working title is 'As Dutch as it gets'. Sylvana has heroically battled 'black pete' as part of the Dutch Sinterklaas tradition. She received death threats and a common commentary that was heard is that she should 'retreat to her own country'. Personally I find this infuriating because I wish The Netherlands could count more citizens like Sylvana among her citizens, so I extended her beautiful afro curls with some typical Dutch items.
